Pay Euro 99 a night to live like a hamster: wheel, grain, and hay stack bed. Leave it to the French to take the housing crisis too far.

Everything is bigger in the South? The world's largest tree house, in Crossville, Tennessee.

Father of the year: this dude spoke to his infant only in Klingon for the first three years of his life. Given this fact alone, how he arrived in a position to become a father remains a mystery.
"I believe that robotics can inspire young people to pursue science and engineering. And I also want to keep an eye on those robots in case they try anything."
-Barack Obama, on the importance of math and science in education
Nude Carla Bruni Flops (uncomfortable imagery intentional)

Way back in April 2008, a naked photo of Carla Bruni] sold for a jarring $91,000 at Christie's. Today, another print of that same photo didn't sell at all. After bidding reached 5,800 euros (about $8,600), the collector who owns the piece withdrew it. And with that, a new economic indicator was born.

Worldly tidbit of the day: Asians love awkward-hair trimmers.

More Google Street View adventures: a firetruck knocking down an old lady?
The best part is the comments.

The Galaxy Dress
This is what 24,000 full-color LED lights and 4,000 Swarovski crystals looks like...

M&M’s actually stands for “Mars & Murrie’s,” the last names of the candy’s founders, Forrest Mars Sr. & William F. R. Murrie.

Happy Guy Fawkes Day!

And I'm so unfit cuz all I eat is rappers
And these rappers ain't shit, I like my fast food faster

He. Kills. It.

I actually like this. Maybe I'm just relieved it's not another 21 Questions, and that NeYo is wearing a hat.

China makes it snow...16mm tonnes. We don't know what moderation means.
Halloween is the best.
Prison in February and I ain't in no rush
Drink til I throw up

Lil Wayne is taking going to prison really well.

Honorable mention for a much-awaited lyric:
Swagger just dumb; call it Sarah Palin
More on the "fun theory" - prompting people to do good by making it fun.

Alec Baldwin's daughter's birthday cake. I guess "Happy Birthday, Rude Little Pig" didn't fit...

Lil Wayne headed to jail (1 year?) after pleading guilty to gun possession in NY. Sentencing set for February. Expect a step up for his music videos.
The Fun Theory: coaxing people into doing good things by making them fun
Case in point: interactive (!) piano stairs. Of course this was done by the svenska.

Pretty bookends!

Windows 7 is Amazon's biggest preorder product of all time, beating Harry Potter! It "sold more in the first 8 hours of its release than Vista did in its entire pre-order period."
Amnesty International's new marketing campaign:
"Amnesty's flame is in danger worldwide. Defend it."

I have no political comment on this, but it's very well done.

Two blogspot sites that are better than mine:
  1. Missed Connections illustrated - pretty renderings of postings found by the artist on missed connections websites
  2. Accidental Dong - a bunch of accidental dongs
  • Prankster group the Yes Men stage a pretty successful hoax pretending to be the Chamber of Commerce. Media, per usual, are duped. It's the same people who brought us the fake Times and the fake Post. These guys are extreme at times but interesting, and they excel at flash mobs, a practice near and dear to my heart.
  • Galleon's Raj Rajaratnam might be a fan of the Tamil Tigers. Things like this are always unclear, when an organization like that is so woven into the administration of parts of the country.
  • Hot - Raj commissioned a rap about putting your money in Galleon. Apparently their "stocks don't miss" - is it too late to get in on this action? Sounds like a great investment.
  • Royce da 5'9"s Street Hop drops tomorrow, 10/20. Him talking about it below. Bullish on this.

  • Mythbusters show that Chinese Bamboo Torture is possible. The thought of living sentient beings subjected to this is hideous.
  • Other ridiculous torture techniques. I looked this up and wished I hadn't.
